About

The Old Bay Scribes is a writing group based out of Maryland, USA.

The first iteration of the group was as a smaller local section within an international writing challenge group. It was first established in the very early 2000s. As the years went by, the local section grew exponentially, into the thousands of participants. Members wanted to be able to keep in touch year-round, so the group began to develop a shared online platform in 2017 via Discord, as an addition to the writing challenge’s platform.

Over time, our community really began to establish itself as a standalone entity. In 2023, we took the plunge and officially distanced ourselves from the international challenge. Since then, we have been focused on creating our own events and solidifying our identity.
